Council Signs Disabilty Charter
Persistence from a local Colchester councillor has paid off, as Essex County Council finally signs a charter aimed at committing services to disabled children. Liberal Democrat councillor for Parsons Heath & Eastgates, Theresa Higgins, has been pressing the council the sign the charter for some time and has been instrumental in producing an action plan. Speaking after yesterday’s (18 December) signing, Cllr Higgins said: “I am delighted that the council has finally signed up to the Every Disabled Child Matters Local Authority Charter which is so important for all disabled children. It means that the county council has taken on formal commitments to implement plans for all children in our area who have any sort of disability, including physical or sensory or learning impairments.
“It has taken longer for Essex County Council to sign up than for many other authorities, which is a pity, but as I am involved with some of the panels overseeing this work, I can keep tabs on progress.”
